Reasons You Should Have a Mentor

Having a mentor is said to be one of the most important keys to success. I believe finding the right mentor is important early on but also it is never to late to have a mentor at any point in your life or career. In a recent article in am New York  says there are four ways to acquire senior mentorship. 

1. Do your best work

Do the best you can and others will notice your efforts. Then make it a habit to always produce your best work. Once you have a mentor you can learn from their mistakes and avoid making them yourself.

2. Identify and get to know influencers.

Talking to the higher-ups at work will allow you identify the right mentor for you. Get to know the people who have the most influence who could really offer you the right insight.

3. Attend work events.

Give yourself the necessary edge, build your work contacts and network, let you mentor know you mean business.

4. Ask for a meeting.

When you have a mentor or meet an interesting person at work ask them out to coffee, get to know them. It’s better to know someone personally and have them assist you, than to just have someone assist you. This is the opportunity to discuss what your goals are. Perhaps they will be in a position to help you achieve your goals. Keep in mind that your mentor has done exactly what it is you are trying to do they can offer the right influence in your work.
